AU’s Carlos Escobar accepts new appointment with the Department of Veterans Affairs

Augusta University’s Carlos Escobar, assistant vice president of Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction Division, has recently accepted a position with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Appointed as the new Director of the Veterans Affairs Caribbean Healthcare System, Escobar will oversee the delivery of health care to more than 66,000 enrolled veterans.

Escobar earned a master’s in Sciences in Health Professions from Southwest Texas State University and a bachelor’s in Architectural Environmental Design from the University of Puerto Rico. Additionally, Escobar is a board-certified Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on local and national boards of American Leadership Forum, American Society of Healthcare Engineers, National Association of College Auxiliary Services and National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives.

“We are excited to bring Mr. Escobar on board as the new director of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System,” said Dr. Miguel LaPuz, Veterans Integrated Service Network 8 director. “His sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the facility, the nearly 3,800 employees, volunteers and most importantly, for the Veterans we are honored to serve.  We anticipate he will arrive at the medical center within the next 30 to 45 days to begin his appointment.”

With his proven track record of successfully managing and leading transformational change, Escobar brings his experience and expertise to his new position as director of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System.
