Military Appreciation Day doubleheader set for Feb. 2

Augusta University Athletics is honored to welcome soldiers from Fort Gordon military base who will fill the stands of Christenberry Fieldhouse as we celebrate members of the U.S. Armed Forces for the annual event. All active duty, retired and veteran military personnel are admitted into the games free of charge with a valid military ID or DD214 form.

“The Military Appreciation Day game is always a special game for our program and university,” said Dip Metress, head men’s basketball coach. “The soldiers enhance the atmosphere at Christenberry and when the ‘Soldiers Creed’ is said it is an extremely special moment.”

“We look forward to honoring our local soldiers again this year at our Military Appreciation Day game on February 2,” said Millette Green, head women’s basketball coach. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for all our military personnel and their families for the sacrifices they make to protect our country.”

During halftime of the men’s game, Augusta University’s ROTC cadets will officially be inducted into the Army with a special swearing-in ceremony.

The Jaguars have also welcomed Operation Teammate, Wounded Warrior Project and the Military & Veterans Services department here at Augusta University to be a part of the celebration.
