Celebrate submariners 500th visit to Children’s Hospital of Georgia

Over the years, a group of local submarine veterans have visited patients in the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, bringing comfort and cheer, and delighting our pediatric patients by inducting them into a rarified group: “Honorary Submariners.”

On Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. in the lobby of Children’s, Augusta University is celebrating the group’s 500th visit and the 2,500 Children’s patients and Honorary Submariners these veterans have visited over the years.

All seven of the veterans who have continued to visit patients will attend the ceremony, bringing awareness to the United States Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation’s Kap(ss) 4 Kid(ss) Program, a community outreach program that delivers comfort and joy to children with challenging medical conditions in local hospitals, including Children’s.

This event is a celebration of those patients inducted as Honorary Submariners with caps, certificates and submarine items, and the opportunity to reunite with the veterans who have volunteered their time and talents over the years.
