Michael Dugan receives Outstanding Accounting Educator Award

Michael Dugan, professor and Peter S. Knox III Distinguished Chair of Accounting in the James M. Hull College of Business at Augusta University, is the recipient of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants’ 2018 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

Dugan is also the 2009 recipient of the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award from the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.

“This is award is very special because it is a type of lifetime achievement,” said Dugan, who served 25 years at the University of Alabama before joining Augusta University. “I think it’s exceptionally notable — it’s incredibly rare that someone receives this award from more than one society.”

Nominated by Abram Serotta, an instructor at Augusta University and local accounting practitioner, Dugan has shown his dedication to his field by making contributions to accounting education, and has had a significant impact on the lives of his students.

“This [award] speaks well to how I’ve impacted the lives of my students at Augusta University,” Dugan added. “I am honored to hold the Peter S. Knox III Distinguished Chair of Accounting, and Dean Rick Franza offers a very supportive environment for me to be productive as a faculty member.”

The presentation of the award will take place at a ceremony in the fall.

The GSCPA is a professional organization of individuals who hold their C.P.A. licenses in the state of Georgia. Each year the Educational Foundation, which provides financial and other support for accounting educators and students, selects an outstanding educator by nomination.
