Lucy Marion awarded 2018 AANP Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence

Dr. Lucy N. Marion, dean and professor in the College of Nursing, has been awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2018 Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence.

According to the AANP, the award is given annually to a dedicated nurse practitioner advocate in each state, who has made a significant contribution toward increasing the awareness and recognition of nurse practitioners.

Marion was recognized for her achievement during the 2018 AANP National Conference in Denver, Colorado, from June 26 โ€“ July 1.ย She was nominated by CON Assistant Professor Dr. Terri Marin.

Marion supports access to quality, affordable health care for all Georgians. In addition to serving as dean of the CON for since 2004, Marion works with AU Health Medical Center leadership to advance patient care through innovative, evidence-based nursing and health care practice.

In fall 2017, she served on the SR-188 Georgia Senate Study Committee on Barriers to Georgianโ€™s Access to Adequate Health Care, aiming to increase rural health care through a broader scope of practice for nurse practitioners. She educated Georgia health policy leaders with formal and informal presentations and mentored NPs and NP students interested in Georgia health policy.
