21st Annual Conference on the Americas coming to Augusta University

For the first time, Augusta University will host the 21st Conference on the Americas, an annual meeting of the Americas Council that explores critical socio-cultural, political, economic, global, regional and national issues, including the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.

The event runs from Friday Feb. 9 to Saturday Feb. 10, with all sessions taking place in the Jaguar Student Activities Center. All musical presentations, lunch and keynote address will be held in the JSAC Ballroom.

The Conference is sponsored by the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences departments of History, Anthropology & Philosophy, and English and Foreign Languages and is also represented by the College of Education.

The event will include plenary sessions, a keynote speaker, a special Argentine Tango piano duet and panels with topics ranging from rural health care and Hispanic farm workers in Georgia to politics in Brazil, to economics in the Caribbean and linguistics/second language acquisition.

Registration begins Friday, Feb. 9 at 12:00 p.m. outside the JSAC Ballroom with plenary at 1:00 p.m., panels until 5:00 p.m. and the Argentine tango piano duet showcase until 5:30.

Saturday registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with panels until 12:00 p.m., a luncheon and the keynote at 1:00 p.m. All events will conclude by 2:30 pm.

Faculty, students, staff and community members are welcome to attend the conference. Register online, and make sure to indicate your preference in attending or not attending the keynote luncheon.

The Conference on the Americas is associated with the University System of Georgia’s charge to System Council on International Education.
