In “A Passion for Peru,” medicine meets culture

Over the summer, Todd Bennett, assistant professor of Communication, flew to Peru to document the mission of Dr. Daron Ferris, students from the Medical College of Georgia, and volunteers from CerviCusco, a humanitarian NGO. Their goal, to combat cervical cancer in the Andes Mountains.

The denizens of the Andes have the highest rate of cervical cancer in the world.

Through the medium of photography, Bennett captured the majesty of a truly ancient culture while simultaneously documenting the lifesaving work being done year after year by Ferris and MCG.

Some of those same photos were featured during a one-night exhibition at The Chateau titled “A Passion for Peru.”
