My tour guide… the librarian?

Ansley Stuart, a librarian instructor embedded in the College of Allied Health Sciences, made an intriguing point in a recent blog post for the Oxford University Press Libraries.

The future of librarians, she says, will revolve around embedded positions.

Why? Because the way we search for and consume information has changed. Drastically.

In a time when WebMD hits show up before crucial medical practice guidelines, embedded librarians can help students and professionals cut through the noise more easily.

“Librarians used to be seen as the gatekeepers of information, allowing access to the library’s resources,” Stuart writes. “Now, the librarian’s role has pivoted to that of tour guide.”
