Elna Green named new dean of Pamplin College

Dr. Elna C. Green

The Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Augusta University has a new dean.

After a national search for Pamplin Dean Charles Clark’s successor upon his retirement in June, the institution selected Dr. Elna C. Green, the associate vice president for Faculty Affairs at San José State University, for the position. She is scheduled to start July 1.

“Dr. Green is a nationally recognized expert in southern and women’s history, and we are pleased to have such an accomplished scholar lead Pamplin College,” said Dr. Gretchen Caughman, executive vice president for Academic Affairs and provost for Augusta University. “With over 25 years in higher education, she has a proven track record of successful leadership and brings a wealth of experience in advancing faculty and student success.”

At SJSU, Green not only served as the associate vice president of Faculty Affairs, but she was a professor and the associate dean of College of Humanities and the Arts. During her eight years with the university, she managed initiatives focused on faculty development and diversity and coordinated strategic planning efforts for student success, enrollment management, curriculum, academic policy and shared governance.

Besides numerous scholarly presentations, she has authored or edited dozens of publications and taught classes on topics related to southern and women’s history, gender, sexuality, and all forms of diversity.

Green earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Wake Forest University, and her doctoral degree from Tulane University.
