Augusta University to host Junior Model United Nations Conference

EVENT: More than 200 students from middle schools in South Carolina and Georgia, including the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, will debate foreign policy issues in the third annual Junior Model United Nations Conference. This year, students will represent 127 countries and will discuss ways to end child marriages and prevent child mortality through immunization. Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis will deliver the keynote speech at 9:10 a.m.

BACKGROUND: Each spring, Augusta University hosts this conference to teach middle school students about the world through a simulation of the United Nations. Students debate issues of global concern with each student or pair of students taking the stance of a different member state.

LOCATION: Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom, Summerville Campus, 2500 Walton Way.

TIME: Media are invited between 9 and 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 15; event goes from 9 a.m. through 3:45 p.m.
