Fourth-year students from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University will participate in Match Day – the annual celebration when students find out where they’ll spend the next phase of their training – Friday, March 17.
Festivities in Augusta will begin at 11:30 a.m., with envelopes being passed out at noon in the J. Harold Harrison, M.D. Education Commons, Room GB 1220. Festivities at the AU/University of Georgia Medical Partnership in Athens will begin at 11:45 a.m. in George Hall on the UGA Health Sciences Campus.
Each year the nation’s senior medical students are matched with postgraduate training in specialties like family medicine and neurosurgery. Each February, after interviews and visits to residency programs, medical students across the country rank hospitals where they’d like to complete their training, and hospital residency programs rank the students. Rankings are submitted to the National Resident Matching Program in Washington, D.C. Pairings are announced simultaneously at U.S. medical schools during Match Day. Graduates of osteopathic and foreign schools as well as U.S. graduates wanting to change their residency also participate.
