Valentine’s Day jazz concert is ‘A Time for Love’

Guest artist Michael Dease will join the Augusta University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Rob Foster for a special Valentine’s Day-themed concert at the Maxwell Theatre on the Summerville Campus.

Dease, a graduate of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, took saxophone lessons from Foster before switching to trombone and taking lessons from Wycliffe Gordon, now the Department of Music’s artist-in-residence. He was part of the first class of students in the Juilliard School’s jazz program, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He recently won Down Beat magazine’s Critics Poll for Rising Star Jazz Trombonist.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 and is free to all Augusta University and East Georgia State College faculty, staff and students with a valid JagCard. General public admission is $5.
