Latest update regarding FLSA

The following email was distributed to Augusta University staff on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016.

Dear Colleagues,

On Nov. 22, a U.S. District Court judge issued a preliminary injunction postponing the Dec. 1, 2016, effective date of the U.S. Department of Labor’s revised overtime rules. It appears likely that the DOL will appeal, but it is uncertain how long the process will take or what the outcome will be.

Based on guidance received from the University System of Georgia, at Augusta University both the university and health system will continue with implementation, including the following:

Any FLSA-related salary changes previously communicated will remain in effect.

All employees who were converted to non-exempt should continue to track their time worked using the TimeNet time and attendance system.

We will continue to monitor the situation, and further evaluation will occur when the questions around the preliminary injunction are either resolved or a future status of the FLSA is clearer. While you may hear that it is possible some positions could return to an exempt classification, no changes will be considered until a thorough analysis of each position can be conducted by Human Resources.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as this new development unfolds.

Sincerely,

Susan A. Norton
Vice President of Human Resources
