Little named chief counsel for Augusta University Medical Center

Lee Hamil Little, former interim chief counsel for Augusta University Medical Center, has been named to the position permanently. In this role, she will lead the medical center’s Office of Legal Affairs.

A successful attorney with more than 20 years’ experience, Little joined the organization in 2004 as associate legal advisor for Augusta University and was later promoted to senior legal advisor. In 2013, she was appointed interim general counsel for the university and held the position for over a year before being named partner in the private law firm of Hamil Little LLP.

Little rejoined the organization earlier this year as interim chief counsel for the medical center, where she advised medical center senior leadership on issues related to contracts, clinical services and quality, insurance and risk management, and employment and litigation.

“The entire Augusta University and health system community is thrilled to have Lee rejoin us in the role of chief counsel for the medical center,” Melcher said. “We are indeed fortunate to have the benefit of her proven legal skills, broad experience and wise judgment to aid us in our future endeavors.”

Prior to joining the organization, Little held positions as a federal prosecutor, firm associate, assistant county attorney and judicial law clerk.

She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Health Lawyers Association and the Health Care Compliance Association. She is a graduate of the 2016 class of Leadership Augusta and serves on the boards of the Greater Augusta Arts Council and the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.

Little received her law degree from Georgia State University.
