U.S. News & World Report: How to cope with claustrophobia

Dr. Jim Rawson explains to U.S. News & World Report how the MRI imaging suite at Augusta University Medical Center was redesigned to help put patients at ease.

“The walls are painted with beach scenes and MRI machines with skylights that reveal Georgia palm trees and sunshine, thanks to patients who were invited to sit alongside the architects and engineers who designed them. A lot of what we’ve been able to accomplish has been because we’ve embraced patients as our partners,” Rawson says. “That’s a mindset that’s very helpful both for the patients and the physicians.”
