The Care and Grooming of Jaguars

In the process of developing a university’s brand, few things are more important than getting the look and feel of the university’s athletics program just right. In Augusta University’s case, that meant answering one very important question:

What does it mean to be a Jaguar?

On the court, it means being fierce, coordinated and always ready for action. On the green, it means being patient, recognizing your strength and never wasting a shot. On the field, it means being fast, focused and always giving it your all.

But to be considered a true Jaguar, you have to embody one quality above all others: teamwork.

That’s exactly what our new brand signifies.

“Competing and communicating effectively is essential to running an athletics department, and a name helps identify a group and those individuals,” said Taylor Lamb, director of athletic media relations. “Wearing the new brand will start to establish our new identity and will create cohesion across campus.”

Clint Bryant, director of athletics, said he’s thrilled by the new Jag look.

“Augusta University Athletics is very excited about our new athletic brand,” said Bryant. “Our Jaguar logo with its ‘Game Face’ and our new ‘A’ are both examples that capture the true spirit of our consolidated university and our recent name change to Augusta University.”

If you’ve found yourself at Christenberry Fieldhouse lately, you may have already gotten a sneak peek at our new court floor – and our new Augustus logo. The new brand look launched at Christenberry over the holidays, paving the way for athletics’ next big roll out: uniforms.

“Our basketball teams will have a new uniform on Feb. 13,” said Lamb. “The other teams will have some new items with the new logos, but all new uniforms will be available for the 2016-17 seasons.”

Bryant said he and the rest of the Jags are ready to wear their new coats with pride.

“Our coaches, student athletes and teams can’t wait to don their newfound brand identity,” Bryant said. “It’s a source of institutional pride, which we will market and showcase to a national and global audience.”

While they wait on their new spots to arrive, though, the Jags are going to need us more than ever, so be sure to come out and support our basketball teams at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, as they take on the Flagler College Saints.

In the meantime, be sure to grab your own Jaguar merchandise at either JagStore location or at one of the Division of Communications and Marketing’s Swag Stops on Jan. 21 and 28 or at the Homecoming game Feb. 13.
