Attention Travel Seekers: Study abroad has a grant just for you

Are you a closet jet-setter? Looking for some adventure with a purpose?

The Study Abroad Office is currently seeking course proposals from faculty members looking for a little “hands-on” experience at the site of their choosing – before their students arrive.

Sound too good to be true? It isn’t.

The Faculty Development Travel Grant is intended to help faculty with their travel costs as they preview the intended location and activities of their proposed courses. Grantees then get to submit their official study abroad proposal after spending some quality time at the location of their choosing.

Interested?

Just complete the six easy steps below and be sure to email your information to Maria Darley at mdarley@gru.edu by Feb. 1, 2016, and you could be one of the lucky recipients of a $3,000 grant.

Step 1: Provide a detailed description of the course you would like to offer.

Step 2: Name the proposed location(s) for the study abroad course. Include a rough outline of a proposed itinerary for a potential program.

Step 3: List potential learning outcomes and how those may be achieved in this location.

Step 4: When would your study abroad course be offered? Name the time of year and possible length of your program.

Step 5:  When would you be interested in traveling for a site visit? Travel must take place before the end of the fiscal year (June 30).

Step 6: List estimated expenses for the potential site visit (this can be a very rough estimate).

Priority of grant awards will be given to:

  • Faculty members who have not led a Study Abroad/Away program at Augusta University or who have never led a study abroad program at any university.
  • Faculty members planning to turn in a final course proposal by April 1, 2016.
  • Faculty members whose proposals involve “new” locations or disciplines. A full list of Study Abroad-Study Away programs can be found here.

Looking to do your travelling a little closer to home? Not a problem!

“We would also be happy to consider new Study Away locations in the United States,” said Maria Darley, director of Study Abroad. “To date, we have only offered programs in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans.”

Act quickly, though, as there are only a handful of grants available.

Bon Voyage, travel seekers.
