CURS Summer Scholars Proposal Deadline Approaching: March 13

The Center for Undergraduate Research & Scholarship (CURS) will offer a six-week Summer Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Program sponsored by the Provost, Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs, and the Senior Vice President for Research.

 The goals of the program are:

(1)    To increase undergraduate student participation in research, scholarship, and creative activity;

(2)    To increase participation of those who are underrepresented in the discipline’s research, scholarship, and creative activity;

(3)    To support high impact scholarly activity that will yield significant student achievement and further the research programs at Georgia Regents University; and

(4)    To increase participation in undergraduate research and creative scholarship among students and faculty at the Health Sciences campus and in the arts.

 Participation and Funding

We will fund up to 13 projects and 39 students to participate in the program. Each student will receive a $2000 stipend for 20 hours of research per week. (Students who participate are not eligible to work on campus during the Summer Scholars Program.) Weekly luncheons and the Summer Scholars Symposium are not included in this 20 hours. Faculty members selected to participate will receive a $3000 stipend. (Only nine month faculty are eligible for the stipend. Twelve month faculty do not qualify for the stipend, but are still eligible to submit a proposal and participate in the program.) Additional support for necessary travel and/or supplies related to the project may be provided. All funded projects are expected to have a 3:1 student to faculty ratio. Participating students must submit an application and agree to the program requirements if and when the faculty’s project is selected.

Program Length and Participation

The program will run from May 18, 2015 to June 26, 2015. A kickoff event will occur on Monday, May 18, 2015. Throughout the program, weekly student development luncheons will be provided and required for the students to attend. Other optional student social activities will take place. The program will conclude on June 29, 2014 at the Summer Scholars Symposium where research results will be presented. Faculty and students participating in the projects are required to attend and participate in all events. Two separate orientation sessions, one for faculty and one for students, will be held during the spring semester at a date TBD.

 Instructions and Review Process:

Please complete all sections of the application packet (SSP Call and Application 2015)  and submit it along with an updated curriculum vitae to Abigail M. Drescher, CURS Program Coordinator, no later than 5:00PM on Friday, March 13, 2015. Applications should be submitted in a single PDF file to CURS@gru.edu.
