Jags XC Dubbed 2015 DII All-Academic Team By NCAA

GRU men’s cross country joins 93 NCAA men’s teams to achieve USTFCCCA academic award

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta men’s cross country team was named one of the NCAA Division II Scholar Teams of the Year for the 2014 cross country season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while Boyd Guttery and Jackson Jacobs earned All-Academic individual honors for the men’s team.

The Jaguars were among 93 men’s programs that earned All-Academic Team honors. The GRU men, coached by Adam Ward, posted a 3.00 GPA. Adams State earned the top honor as the highest-finishing team at NCAAs to have earned All-Academic Team honors by compiling a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and scoring at an NCAA Division II regional meet. Adams State has claimed it in five of the past seven seasons.

For the individual academic awards, honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his or her regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

The GRU Augusta men had a solid year finishing eighth in the final Southeast Regional rankings, presented by USTFCCCA. Their best finish of the year was a second place result at their very own Jaguar Invitational on Sept 28 at Fort Gordon Military Base. The Jaguar men finished fourth at the Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted at Fort Gordon as well on Nov. 8, and took eighth at the regional on Nov. 22.

The 208 men were representative of 97 institutions and 21 conferences. See the full USTFCCCA press release by clicking here
